Purnidevi Chowdhury Girls’ college started its journey on 5th August, 2004 and got affiliation from the University of Burdwan in the 2005-06 sessions. From 2008 the college started full-fledged UGC curriculum. This college is the Brain-child of the then speaker of Loksabha and Member of Parliament Sri Somnath Chattopadhyay. Purnidevi Chowdhury Girls’ College is the ‘first Government-aided Girls’ college’ in Birbhum District and its main aim to cater education and consciousness among the women, as well as to promote women empowerment.

At present the college is developing its infrastructure and initiating various curriculums to follow National Education Policy 2020. Maximum numbers of Faculties of the college have already been awarded M.Phil. and Ph.D. Degree. The University of Burdwan permitted to increase our Intake Capacity of different departments.

Apart from academic activities IQAC and Career Counseling Sub-Committee organizes seminar and workshops for making our girl students competent and employable. Alumni Association has been framed for the pass-out students, they are most welcome to become member of this association and take part for the betterment of the college. The number of books and journals has been increased in our College Central Library. We have got a Financial Assistance from P.C. Chandra Group to renovate our reading room.

The college has successfully completed the 1st Cycle of NAAC Assessment in the year 2017 and achieved Grade ‘B’. Our college is now preparing for its 2nd Cycle NAAC evaluation.  We have a small playground within the premises where basketball and practical classes of Physical Education department are performed. If the Government of West Bengal or SSDA offer us 10 cottas of land from the southern side of the college, our girl students could play and organize social and cultural programme over there.

On behalf of the college I pray to all stakeholders, well-wishers, guardians and educationist to share their valuable experiences and opinions for the betterment of this institution. After all, we are thankful to our hon’ble President and M.I.C, W.B. Sri Chandranath Sinha and to all respected Members of the Governing Body of the college.

In spite of being digitally not so efficient our students had actively participated in the online-classes held during the COVID pandemic 2019.  I request to all my beloved students to attend their classes as per our college routine and do take a vital role in each and every academic venture and socio- cultural activities of the college.

Thanking you.
